Training Island Style

Dog training is a lifelong practice with some skills being more important than others. Essential dog training skills are much like laying a foundation, and preparing your dog(s) for a lifetime of good behavior which takes consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement.

Whether you just brought home a puppy, adopted a shelter dog, or want to refresh your old dog’s training, we can help you in the process by teaching your dog (and yourself) the important skills needed.

The Pet Doctor: Professional Dog Training

Puppy Training: Individual

Everyone loves the smell of puppy breath.  Everyone loves the cuteness of a new puppy, BUT, the potty training, the chewing, the barking, and the not listening when called…well it all can be very stressful.  The Pet Doctor Doggie Daycare & Boarding training staff want to assist you and your family with a positive household training experience.

The Puppy training classes are designed for puppies 8 months or younger and can start with puppies as early as 14-16 weeks of age.  All veterinary requirements of the facility are required.  If your pet is not spayed or neutered, they will be allowed to interact with the trainer and any other pets in the group classes only.

You can purchase single classes or a package of classes.  Class time are set up with you and the trainer based on scheduling availability.  You will spend about 10-15 minutes at the beginning of class going over what is expected during the class and questions you may have had from the previous class.  You will spend 30-40 minutes learning/training with your puppy.  The final 10-15 minutes will be to review what you have learned, answer any questions, and go over your at home training assignments.

Basic Training (Behavior Modification)

You tell yourself…I love my dog, I love my dog, I love my dog….as you are now cleaning up the bits and pieces of a chewed remote, leash, or shoe, or the incessant barking at you neighbor, or pulling on the leash to get to the neighbor’s dog.  We all want the perfectly behaved dog…but no one is perfect right!!  The Pet Doctor Doggie Daycare & Boarding training staff want you to enjoy that walk through the neighborhood, wear those new shoes out on the town without chew marks, and relax on the couch without having to get up to change the channel.

The basic training is great for the not so young puppy that is having basic commands and behavior issues, the newly adopted adult that needs to learn or be refreshed of basic commands, or the family dog that just needs a clean up on the basics.

The Basic/Advanced training classes are designed for puppies/dogs 8 months or older.  All veterinary requirements of the facility are required.  If your pet is not spayed or neutered, they will be allowed to interact with you and the trainer only.  After initial consultation, your individualized training program can be created.   (There is an option for puppies to go through a puppy version of the basic training if purchasing the Rendezvous Package).

You can purchase single classes or a package of classes.  Scheduling is set up with you and the trainer based scheduling and availability.  You will spend about 10-15 minutes at the beginning of class going over what is expected during the class and questions you may have had from the previous class.  You will spend 30-40 minutes learning/training with your dog.  The final 10-15 minutes will be to review what you have learned, answer any questions, and go over your at home training assignments.

Rendezvous Package

We all know the hustle and bustle of our day to day life.  Wouldn’t it be nice to send our furry family members on a little Rendezvous Excursion for a week and come back little better behaved (or in our case more relaxed).  Well let our Pet Doctor Training staff get the good times rolling with a little training and a little exercise for your pet.

This little excursion is a 5 day course of basic training (or modified behavior training) and all week of daycare.  Drop your pet off at 7:30 am and pick up at 6:00pm.  Our trainer will work with your pet for 15-20 minutes every hour (6 hrs) and then let them play and exercise the rest of the hour (allowing for breaks in between).  You will have a 15 minute consult upon check-in and a 15 minute consult upon check-out, to go over any questions, concerns, and at home training assignments.

The basic training (Rendezvous package) classes are designed for puppies/dogs 8 months or older.  All veterinary requirements of the facility are required.  If your pet is not spayed or neutered, they will be allowed to interact with you and the trainer only.  We have one exception of allowing this package to be offered to puppies 14 weeks and older.  This would be a great way to introduce training for the beginner experience.

Advanced Training (Behavior Modification)

Everyone wants to improve on something with their self, right?!  We cannot leave out our furry family members from those same personal improvements.  They just need a little help and guidance.  Well, The Pet Doctor Training staff is here to help.  From fears and anxieties, to aggression, and any new behaviors and commands you want your pet to learn.
